Pauline Womack Shaip

September 8, 1928 - January 3, 2021

Pauline Elizabeth Womack Shaip passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021.

Born September 8, 1928 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Jack Corbin and Mildred Dodson Womack. She attended Whitmell High School and Averett College. She married Said Nassib, "Cy" Shaip, in November, 1948 beginning their marriage of 42 years, until his death in April 1990. She was a faithful and loving partner to him throughout his years as a restaurant owner, at Castle's Lunch, the Elks Club, The Charcoal House and later as he managed the Danville Golf Club. She set a shining example of support and care for him and his business throughout the years.

Pauline was a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She kept an immaculate home and enjoyed flowers and yard work. She was a founding member of the Par-T-Club in Surrey Hills as the neighborhood was established and grew. She also enjoyed the Garden Club for many years. Her interests included a love for history, particularly the Middle East. She and Said were able to travel to Beirut, Lebanon to visit family and through Egypt and Europe on two occasions. She returned with mementos and treasures that she leaves to her family to enjoy. She loved to read, do crossword puzzles and draw with all of her grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Paul (Debby) Shaip of Danville; daughter, Laura (Marc) Lengel, Macon, Ga.; six grandchildren, Chris (Bettina) Shaip, and Leslie Shaip, Raleigh, N.C., Philip (Lauren) Lengel, Macon, Ga., Christine (Adam) Harper, Cornelia, Ga., Kathryn Lengel, Atlanta, Ga., Joseph (Marah) Lengel, Savannah, Ga.; four great-grandchildren, Lauren Shaip, Evelyn and Emma Kate Lengel and Noah Harper; her two sisters, Rachel Womack and Jackie Womack, Danville Va.; and first cousin, Frances Daniel, Providence, N.C.

Services will be held at Norris Funeral Home, West End Chapel, Danville, Va., on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at 2 p.m. officiated by Tim Rogers. Covid-19 protocols will be followed.
