Phyllis Moore Bennett

Phyllis Moore Bennett, of Chatham, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 17, 2021.

Mrs. Bennett was born on February 7, 1924, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, daughter of the late Mary Echols Moore and Caleb Judson Moore Sr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Calvin Bennett Sr. and her daughter, Jeanne Elizabeth Bennett. She was also preceded by her siblings, Richard E. Moore, Caleb J. Moore Jr., Carlton W. Moore, E. Paige Moore, George L. Moore, and Imogen Moore Ramey.

Surviving are daughter, Carol B. Motely (Boyd), sons, William C. Bennett Jr. (Andi) and James A. Bennett (Shelby); five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and two step great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bennett is also survived by her two loving, compassionate, and supportive caregivers, Connie Graves, and Ethel Venable.

Mrs. Bennett was a member of Oak Grove Christian Church where she sang in the choir and was active in the Ladies Circle, serving as President, Secretary, and other positions. Prior to her decline in health, she spent many hours hooking lovely wool rugs and other items. She also enjoyed flower arranging, working jigsaw puzzles, and reading.

The family is very grateful to the nurses and other staff members of Chatham Health and Rehab for their excellent care during her short time there.

Funeral services will be held at Norris Funeral Home's Chatham Chapel in Chatham, Virginia, on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at 2 p.m. by the Reverend Michael Waters with burial in the Bennett Family Cemetery, Oak Grove Christian Church.

The family will receive friends at the residence (832 Cherrystone Rd, Chatham, Virginia) on Saturday, November 20, 2021, from 4 until 7 p.m.
