Rayburn Davis Obituary
April 24, 1937 - October 19, 2022
Rayburn Leonard Davis, was born April 24, 1937, in Danville, Va., the elder son of Jewel Leonard and Edna Eloise Scearce Davis, departed this life peacefully on October 19, 2022.
He was a graduate of G.W. High School and worked at Dan River Mills before beginning a career in Contract Sales at Sears in 1966 until his retirement in 1999. After retirement he worked at Riverside Hardware for several years.
Rayburn had a strong work ethic and enjoyed working in his yard and garden. He was a Deacon and an active member of Sandy Shores Baptist Church.
On May 8, 1959 he married Ann Edwards Scruggs and remained devoted to her for the next 63 years. Their son, Rayburn Mark, was born on June 26, 1961, and was called to his heavenly home on August 12, 2012.
He is survived by his wife; and his two grandchildren, Barry Ray (Brandi) and Melanie Elizabeth, both of Seattle, Wash. He was predeceased by his brother, William T. Davis (Linda). Rayburn is also survived by his two nephews, Blake and Todd and their families, and two children who died before birth.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, October 21, 2022, 11 a.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Reverend Eric Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service from 10 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home and at other times the family will be at the residence, 125 Turpin Street, Danville, VA 24541.
