Raymond Duke Ferrell, Sr.

Raymond Duke Ferrell, Sr., 88, of 951 Mulberry Road, Martinsville, VA died Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville/Henry County. He was born on August 2, 1921 in Selma, NC to the late Reverend William Ferrell and Betty Owens Ferrell.

Mr. Ferrell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Martinsville and served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was co-owner/operator of McCollum-Ferrell Shoe Store in Martinsville and Danville for 52 years. Mr. Ferrell was a past member of the Martinsville Exchange Club and the Retail Merchants Association.

Surviving are his wife, Annie Lee Hanby Ferrell of the home.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of Martinsville with Dr. Dennis Knight and Reverend John Fulcher officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the church and other times at the residence.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Martinsville, 23 Starling Avenue, Martinsville, VA 24112.
