Richard Fowlkes Obituary

YANCEYVILLE, N.C. Richard "Dick" Jennings Fowlkes, 85, of Yanceyville, N.C., was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 30, 2018. Born on June 7, 1932, son of the late Robert J. Fowlkes and the late Nancy Fowlkes, Mr. Fowlkes was preceded in death by his sisters, Elizabeth White, Rebecca Stanfield, Nancy Patterson, and Frances Smith; his half-sister, Mary Turner; and his brothers, John Fowlkes, Robert Fowlkes, Doug Fowlkes, and Charles Fowlkes. Dick was a member of Locust Hill Methodist Church and a former member of First Baptist Church of Yanceyville, acting as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher. For over 30 years, he was a dedicated employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. Later, Mr. Fowlkes opened Fowlkes Green House in Yanceyville, N.C., which he operated with his family for over 25 years. After retiring from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, Dick found joy in dealing antiques for over 20 years. Mr. Fowlkes was a loving and committed husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed married life with his wife, Patsy Fowlkes, for over 56 years. To his children and grandchildren, he imparted life lessons and wisdom that would help form them into adulthood. No matter what life would send Dick's way, his family would always come first. He was a great role model and enjoyed telling stories. Dick took pleasure in recycling and repurposing old objects. Surviving in addition to his wife, Patsy Fowlkes of Yanceyville, N.C., is his daughter, Nancy "Rick" Dailey of Burlington, N.C.; his daughter, Beth "Dwayne" Drake of Greer, S.C.; his daughter, Susan "Chris" Edwards of Brentwood, Tenn.; his grandchildren, Martin and Katherine Dailey of Burlington, N.C., Jordan, Rebecca, and Lauren Drake of Greer, S.C., and Robert, Grace, and John Edwards of Brentwood, Tenn. Also surviving are a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Locust Hill United Methodist Church, 281 Stoney Creek School Rd., Reidsville, NC 27320. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Locust Hill United Methodist Church and other times at the home. Officiating will be the Rev. Jason Gaskin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Locust Hill United Methodist Church or Hospice of Alamance/Caswell County, 918 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215. It is the honor of Harrelson Funeral Services to serve the Fowlkes family.
