Robert Whitt Obituary


DANVILLE, Va. - Robert Holt Whitt Sr., age 83, of 417 South Woodberry Avenue, died Saturday morning, October 25, 2003 in the Roman Eagle Memorial Home.

He was born on November 28, 1919 in South Boston, Va., a son of Richard Larkin Whitt and Ella Sue Thaxton Whitt.

Mr. Whitt had lived most all his life in Danville and was retired from Dan River, Inc. as manager of the Graphic Arts Department.

On August 5, 1944, he married the former Faye Dixon, who survives of the home.

Mr. Whitt was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Roman Eagle Masonic Lodge No. 122 and the Elks Club.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Richard Astor Whitt and Cecil Briggs Whitt.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Dixon Whitt of the home; a son, Robert H. Whitt Jr. and his wife Sharon, of Danville; a daughter, Helen Whitt Meadors and her husband Ken, of Danville; four grandchildren, Whitney Meadors of Alexandria, Va. and Carter Meadors, Holt Whitt III and Drew Whitt, all of Danville.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 27, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mausoleum Chapel at Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Elbert Williamson. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Townes Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements and the family will receive friends at the residence.

The family suggests that memorials may be sent to the Danville Life Saving Crew or your favorite charity.
