William Farmer Obituary


DANVILLE, Va. - William Henry Farmer, 81, of 1661 Piney Forest Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004 at Duke Medical Center. He had been in declining health for the past 10 months and in Duke the last four days.

Born Aug. 31, 1923, in Pittsylvania Co., he was the son of the late Ramsey B. Farmer Sr. and the late Clincie Shelhorse Farmer.

Mr. Farmer had lived all of his life in Pittsylvania County and Danville. He was a self-employed cattle dealer.

Mr. Farmer was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church and a member of the Chapel Bible Class.

He served with the Merchant Marines during World War II.

He married Margie Johnson Farmer on Nov. 4, 1944.

In addition to his wife, of the residence, he is survived by three sons, William Barry Farmer and wife, Susan of Danville, Jessie Paige Farmer and wife, Cindy of Danville and Curtis Mark Farmer and wife, Georgeanna of Dry Fork; one daughter, Laura Adair Somerville and husband, Frank of Orange, Va.; one granddaughter, Laura Somerville; and three grandsons, Brandon Farmer and wife, April, Walker Somerville and Drew Wilson.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2 at Moffett Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeffrey Wright officiating. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and at other times will be at the residence, 1661 Piney Forest Road.

Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, Westover is in charge of arrangements.

It seems like such a short time ago that the Shelhorse family had those big family gatherings for Christmas dinners. Now so many of those loved ones will be welcoming William to another family gathering, this time in Heaven!
