William Dudley Poindexter Jr., age 87, died on Monday, July 13, 2015, at Danville Regional Medical Center.Mr. Poindexter was born on March 8, 1928, in Caswell County, N.C., to the late William Dudley Poindexter Sr. and Sally Hodges Poindexter.He worked at Abercrombie Oil Co. for 31 years, and he was of the holiness faith. Mr. Poindexter was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served for 10 years. He played fiddle for the Rawhide Band and others. Locations include Carolina County in Ruffin, NC, T-Bird on 58 East, Old Virginia Barn Dance and many others.Mr. Poindexter is survived by his wife, Mary L. Moss Poindexter of the residence; daughters, Rebekah Reynolds of Providence, N.C., and Beth Scearce and husband, C. G. of Danville, Va.; granddaughters, Christie Allen of Pikeville, Ky., and Amanda Martin of Providence, N.C.; grandson, Daniel Scearce of Danville, Va.; and sister, Melba Moschler Poindexter.In addition to his parents, Mr. Poindexter was predeceased by his son, Timothy Reynolds; brothers, Raleigh Poindexter, and James Poindexter; and sisters, Ada Wilson, Inez Williams, and Thelma McGregor.Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2015, at Swicegood Funeral Home with the Rev. Matthew Pacifico officiating. Visitation will be held from 7 until until 9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at Swicegood Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
