William Warren "Billy" Potter Sr.
YANCEYVILLE-William Warren "Billy" Potter Sr., 75, of 247 Old NC 86 Highway North, died Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Danville Regional Medical Center following a short illness. He was born in Caswell County Feb. 26, 1936 to Lee Covington Potter and Ollie Maude Smithey Potter. He was a graduate of Bartlett-Yancey High School in 1953 and he retired as a dispatcher from a local concrete company. He also retired from Danville Regional Medical Center where he worked as a security officer. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Yanceyville. Funeral service will be held Wednesday 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Yanceyville with Rev. Claude Harrelson officiating and Jeff Sicz assisting. Interment will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 89 and National Navy Seabees Association. Survivors are daughters, Gina P. Gentry and husband, Wayne, of Yanceyville; Debra P. Garrison and husband, Johnny, of Providence; and Janie Potter and fiancÂ‚, Russell Webber, of Yanceyville; sons, William Potter Jr. and wife, Betty, of Berryville, Va., Robert Potter and wife, Kim, of Yanceyville; sisters, Doris England of Troutville, Va., and Margaret Bullock of Reidsville; brothers, Curtis Potter of Leasburg and R.C. Potter of Reidsville; 11 grandchildren; 10, great-grandchildren, and fiancÂ‚e, Margaret Gardner of Cascade, Va. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Carl Lee Potter, Bobby Potter, and Floyd Potter.
The family will receive friends Tuesday 7 to 8:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church and at other times at the home of his son, Robert, 1698 Old NC Highway North 86. Harrelson Funeral Service is assisting the Potter family with arrangements.
