William Wilkins Obituary
DANVILLE - William Russell Wilkins, Jr. of 261 Belaire Dr. died the night of Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008. He was born in Danville on June 2, 1940 a son of the late William Russell Wilkins, Sr. and the late Mildred Godfrey Wilkins. In 1957 William was married to the late Sammye Owen Wilkins. Mr. Wilkins spent his entire life in Danville where he was an entrepreneur, owning several retail establishments around Danville. Mr. Wilkins had been in declining health for the last six months and in the hospital for the last two weeks. He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Wilkins is survived by a son, William Russell Wilkins, III; two granddaughters, Atosha Custer, of the residence, and Keisha Moser; and a great- grandson, Evan Jackson Custer.
Mr. Wilkins is also survived by a brother, Hampton Wilkins.
Mr. Wilkins was preceded in death by two children, Timothy Daryl Wilkins, and Leigh Caroll Wilkins.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 Sunday, October 12,2008 at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with Minister Hershel Stone officiating. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park. The family received friends from 7:00- 8:00 P.M. Saturday, October 11, 2008 at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel, and other times at the residence, 261 Belaire Dr. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the Averett University Autism Initiative, 420 West Main St. Danville, VA 24541, and Attn. Page Stooks.
