Christopher Loyet Obituary

Christopher David Loyet, 57, of Glen Carbon, IL, passed from this life on Thursday, February 5, 2026, in Bonaire, Dutch Antilles.
Chris was born June 27, 1968, in Highland, IL, to David and Judith (Tibbetts) Loyet. He married Amy Laymon on March 5, 1994, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Urbana, IL.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Amy; two daughters, MJ of Rockville, MD, and Jessica of Glen Carbon; his parents; his brother, Matt (Melissa) Loyet; a special aunt, Mary Jo (Bob) Newman; nephews, Andrew (Lauren), Cameron (Haley), and Kaden Loyet; niece Lainey Loyet; one great nephew; and two great nieces.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Arthur and Mabel Loyet and James and Gretchen Tibbetts.
Chris grew up in Highland, IL, and graduated from Highland High School in 1986. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees at Eastern Illinois University, where he majored in Botany and was a proud member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He worked for fifteen years at VWR and most recently for ten years as Area Sales Director at Qiagen.
Chris's days were a testament to his expertise, natural talent, and desire to grow and learn. He was an artist who could tie a bespoke fly for a day fishing on the river or delight audiences on the keyboard in a dimly lit watering hole with bandmates Barrelhouse Sinners. He could craft a delicious dinner party, throw an epic Halloween bash, and in between spend his down time creating fascinating worlds in his many aquariums. Most of all he enjoyed vacations with his family at their cabin in Wisconsin, lazy weekend days with Amy on their boat, concerts, movies, or just hanging out with his girls and a cozy fire at home. Anyone who spent a day with Chris came away well fed, thoroughly entertained, and just a little bit smarter.
A visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church in Edwardsville with a Celebration of Life following at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Conservation Resource Alliance (www.rivercare.org) or the Dilated Cardiomyopathy Foundation (www.dcmfoundation.org).

One of the finest VWR managers I ever had the pleasure of working with. He was honest, supportive, and dedicated to improving the skill sets of his sales team as well as mine. We just lost one of the good ones.

Chris was a real friend and he´ll be sorely missed. Whether talking work, politics, the latest book we read, music or life in general, I always enjoyed being around Chris. He was a good listener and it´s difficult to process that he´s gone. It was easy to admire Chris...he was a modern day Renaissance man. He had some really cool hobbies like keeping fish, fly fishing, entertaining, cooking, music study and reading some pretty intellectual stuff.

There are too many great memories but I´ll offer a few. He and Amy imbibed with Tara and I on some great Philadelphia cuisine (with opera singing wait staff he appreciated) and memories recently, including a Peter Gabriel concert...Being nearby neighbors in Glen Carbon, we ran into each other just about every week. One of my favorite random encounters was seeing him at Lowe´s - we were both alone and dressed in the "Sunday dad doing home projects" outfits of grungy work clothes. Turns out we chose that exact time as it was during football season and the Rams were horrible - so why not try to chip in around the house - "funny meeting you here for the exact same reason"...He and Lane dressing as Penn and Teller at a memorable Loyet Halloween parties probably takes the cake. Chris was talented enough to pull off Penn Gillette convincingly...I give him credit for helping my wife Tara see the light and discover Led Zeppelin and Robert Plant - all it took was Chris convincing us to attend an Allison Kraus concert in Alton (never had that on my bingo card - thanks CL) with he and Amy. He knew I was a fan of The Who and I believe he convinced his band mates to mix in some of their songs if he knew I was attending a concert they played in the St. Louis area...Chris and I were volunteer labor following our wives lead us as EHS Marching Tiger parent; great to have him as a volunteer...He´s the only guy I knew who could figure out Steely Dan´s lyrics and their meaning. He was the designated driver to one of their St. Louis shows and could have had a side hustle as an Uber driver explaining their nearly impossible to comprehend lyrics. Chris got it and could break it down to our level. Pretty cool.

Talking to Chris Trifiletti and reflecting about Chris, we agreed that the man loved adventure...And trying new things. Whether it was watching a stage version of Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park or seeing George Washington´s Valley Forge home, he was all in and that attitude was contagious and appreciated. What a great example he set. Thanks Chris.
