Dennis "Denny" Dabbs

Former Edwardsville resident, Dennis "Denny" Edward Dabbs, age 68, of Bucerias, Nayarit, Mexico, died Thursday morning, October 6, 2016 at the University of Kansas Medical Center after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Denny was born November 21, 1949, in Alton, Illinois, he was the son of the late Charles "Ed" and Evelyn (Green) Dabbs.
He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Anita Gale Dabbs; his sister Jeanne (Thurm) Barzee; along with two children; Rebecca Dabbs MacLean (DJ MacLean) and Stuart Dabbs both of Edwardsville, IL; 3 step children Kari Jackson (Paul Rosen) of Lawrence, KS; Joel Jackson (Brianna) of Castle Rock, CO; and Dana Jackson of San Francisco, CA; 10 grandchildren, Jourdan Bilerback, Wilson Kayser, Elizabeth Kayser, Olivia Ladd, Ty Dabbs, Miles Jackson, Henry Jackson, Sadie Mae Jackson, Lili Rosen and Mira Rosen; and many other relatives and friends.
He graduated from Wood River High School in 1965, then attended William Jewel College where he wrestled and played football and earned a BS in Physical Education. He also earned a MS in Counselor Education and a Specialist degree in Administration from SIUE. He was employed by Wood River/Hartford School District for 30 years.
Denny loved cooking for family and friends, traveling the Mexican country side visiting local artist and communities, was an avid sailor and also enjoyed carpentry and refinishing furniture.
He and his family received two Edwardsville Preservation Awards for homes at 217 and 215 North Kansas in Edwardsville, IL.
