Donna Jean Ashauer (Luer)
Worden - Donna Jean Ashauer (Luer), age 87, of Worden, IL passed away at Meridian Village Memory Care in Glen Carbon, IL on January 9,2026, surrounded by love and compassion. Born May 12, 1938, in Worden, IL, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur G. (Bill) Luer and Dorothy (Wiesemann) Luer. She married Carl Eugene "Gene" Ashauer on November 6, 1954, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Worden, IL. Shortly after celebrating their 62 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on November 16, 2016. In addition to her husband and parents, Donna was preceded in death by her brother-in-law William (Bill) Ashauer.
Donna was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Worden, IL. She valued serving her community in several ways as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and being involved in many church functions. Donna began her career with the USPS, working at the Post Office in Worden, IL. She proudly retired as Postmaster in Bethalto, IL. Donna loved watching basketball and volleyball games where her loved ones played. She proudly supported the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. She enjoyed outdoors especially flowers, butterflies, and gathering with family and friends. Music brought her so much joy and she was always joining in to sing along with familiar and favorite songs. She is survived by daughter Rita Srum (husband Ted Hediger) of St. Peters, MO, and sons David Ashauer (wife Maria Giardina) of St. Louis, MO and Dale Ashauer of Highland, IL; Grandchildren: Kelly (husband Daniel) Consiglio, Clark (wife Kellie) Srum, Kayla Srum (husband Anthony Gowgiel), and Courtney Srum; Great-granddaughters: Gianna Consiglio, Olivia and Madelyn Srum. One sister Kathleen Bloemker of Aubrey, TX, one sister-in-law Shirley Ashauer of Hamel, IL. Dear friend Carl Reimler who was a great companion during her years at Meridian Village, and family friend John Dorroh. She is also survived by niece and nephews.
Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m.on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 512 Main Street, Worden Illinois. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Worden, IL, with Rev Dustin Krystowiak officiating. Burial will be held at Worden Lutheran Cemetery in Worden, IL following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers please make online gifts in memory of Donna Ashauer to the Dementia Society of America, www.Dementia Society of America.org/donate. or to Trinity Lutheran Church, Worden, IL.
