Herman Hochmuth
Herman C. "Dutch" Hochmuth, 98, of Staunton, Illinois, died at 9:55 p.m. on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at Heritage Health in Staunton. He was born Sept. 11, 1913 in Staunton, a son of the late Ernst Louis and Pauline (Reckert) Hochmuth.
He married Helen F. Wray on July 17, 1939 in South Bend, Indiana. She preceded him in death on June 5, 2010.
Mr. Hochmuth was an operating engineer at Shell Oil Co. in Roxana, IL, for 33 years, retiring in 1975. He later worked as a real estate agent with Quade Real Estate Co. in Staunton.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Staunton. He graduated from Staunton High School in 1935. "Dutch" was a former city alderman, former Mayor of Staunton and a past member of the Macoupin County Board.
He is survived by one daughter, Carolyn F. Kohlmeier of Belleville, Illinois; one son, John (Mary) Hochmuth of Staunton, Illinois; four grandchildren, Lisa Bray of Fairview Heights, Illinois, Bryan Kohlmeier of Sorento, Illinois, Erich (Kate) Hochmuth of St. Louis, Missouri, Laila Hochmuth of Staunton, Illinois; six great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Matthew and Logan Bray, Jack Kohlmeier, Isabelle and Emma Hochmuth.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Hochmuth; one son-in-law, Roy Kohlmeier; one sister, Leona Scheller; and two brothers, Alfred and Richard Hochmuth.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton. A funeral service will immediately follow at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Debbie Jo Atkins. A private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton.
Memorials are suggested to either St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Staunton, Staunton Public Library or to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
