John Mudge Obituary

John Gregory Mudge, Jr.
East Alton - John Gregory Mudge, Jr., age 75, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025, surrounded by his devoted wife, family, and close friends, following a courageous, years-long battle with cancer.
Born on November 12, 1949, in Champaign, IL, the son of the late John G. Mudge, Sr. who passed in 1959; his late mother, Beverly A. (Fink) Gorman; and his stepfather, James E. Gorman II. Greg was a man of deep conviction, kindness, and unwavering commitment to justice and community. He lived his life with purpose and was guided by compassion, service, and marked by an ever-present warmth that made everyone feel seen and valued.
As the owner and operator of Mudge Professional Services, Greg was known for his dedication to helping others. He was also a board member of the Lincoln School Alumni Foundation and remained an engaged and passionate advocate throughout his life, especially in local political campaigns and causes that uplifted the Metro-East communities he loved.
Greg's legacy is one of service, empathy, and inclusion. He believed deeply in the power of people to create positive change, and he inspired those around him to do the same. His impact will be felt for generations through the many lives he touched.
Greg is survived by his beloved wife, Joan Mudge; brothers, Steve Mudge, Robert Mudge, Bill (Jennifer) Mudge, and Jimmy (Michelle) Gorman; and sisters, Ann Gorman and Mary Gorman. He was a devoted stepfather to Leah (James) Cuff, Trey Cuff, Graeme Cuff, and Olivia Gum. Besides his parents and stepfather, Greg was preceded in death by his stepson, Matthew Gum. To his family, Greg was not only a guide and protector but also a source of joy, laughter, and unconditional love.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in Greg's memory to the American Cancer Society, Southern Poverty Law Center, or Planned Parenthood-organizations that reflect the causes Greg held dear.
Visitation will be held at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville on Monday, July 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. A private burial will take place at Mudge Cemetery in Grantfork, IL. Condolences may be expressed online at weberfuneralhome.com.

A gang of kids on hot summer weekends floating on inner tubes, chasing fireflies and eating fried chicken dinners from Diamond Mineral Springs. My thoughts are with you all.

Worked side by side and otherwise with Greg on many campaigns, even a couple pretty big ones back in the day. We would have some very spirited discussions that resulted in deep heels, but we never lost sight of ultimate goal. Greg was very talented in his work and very passionate about the campaigns he took up.
I offer my deepest sympathies to the entire family. May God Bless with peace and comfort at this time. RIP Greg!

It sure was a joy to work with Greg on raising money for the Morris Bradshaw Scholarship; a "labor of love" as he often mentioned when we spoke. He was effective at that labor. I´m making a memorial gift to the Bradshaw Scholarship in Greg´s name. There is no doubt that the communities in which both of those men were engaged will miss them greatly. My deepest sympathies Joan to you and to the entire Mudge family.
