Katherine Sue Fisher
Edwardsville - Katherine (Kay) Sue Fisher, age 82, of Edwardsville, IL passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family, on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at 1:00 pm.
Kay was born in Hillsboro, IL, on February 27, 1940, to the late Emily and Leonard Mateyka. She attended Edwardsville High School, and right out of high school married Billy (Bill) Joe Fisher on February 7, 1959. Bill proceeded her in death in 1997.
She worked at the Illinois Department of Unemployment in Edwardsville throughout her career, taking early retirement at the age of 50. Not stopping there and continuing to stay "busy", she worked for a local photography studio part-time into her 70's. She was also very busy traveling/spending time throughout her life with family and friends. She also found plenty of time to take exercise classes until her late 70's.
Kay was a lifelong/devoted member of St Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville. She loved her faith, family and friends deeply. She also found time to volunteer at various events (i.e., Bonifest, St Boniface Garden Club, Free Lunch Program, etc), wherever she was needed.
Kay is survived by daughter Tracy Becker (Ken) and son, Brad Fisher (Nancy Schwalb). Youngest son, Greg, proceeded her in death. Sister Mary O'Laughlin of Glen Carbon, IL, Sister-in-law Wally Fisher of Bethalto, IL and Sister-in-law Deloris Fisher of Edwardsville, IL.
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jayme Crowder (Ben), Meghan Nebiolo (Andy), Gregory Fendler, John Schwalb (Tiffany) and Nick Schwalb (Tiffany). And great grandchildren: Richard, Teddy, Eloise, Ruby, Alexander, Isabella, Gwendalyn, Ronin. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Kay was proceeded in death: Parents Emily and Leonard Mateyka, Mother and Father In-Law Louise and Kenneth (Perk) Fisher, Husband Bill Fisher, Son Greg Fisher, Brothers Michael Mateyka and William Mateyka, Sister-in-law Karen Mateyka, Brother-in-law Kenneth Fisher, Brother-in-law Tom O'Laughlin, Nephew Todd O'Laughlin, Niece Mary Ann Byrd.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at St. Boniface Church, followed by the funeral at 11 a.m. with Fr. Jeffrey Goeckner officiating. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville.
