Melinda Ann Stimson
Edwardsville - Melinda Ann Stimson, "Mindy", 69, devoted and beloved aunt, avid reader, cat mom, steadfast friend to dozens, and wry student of racy literature died of natural causes Monday, November 3rd, 2025. She was a lifelong resident of Edwardsville, Illinois and graduated with a B.S. in advertising from University of Illinois in 1978 and in 1980 with an MBA Masters in Marketing and Finance from Northwestern University at the Kellogg School of Management. She began her career at Mercantile Bank and retired as a vice president from Commerce Bank where she was responsible for running their most successful advertising campaigns. Her first cats, Profit and Loss, were named for her interest in investments and banking.
Mindy skillfully straddled the line between devoted friend and advice columnist. She often said if everybody would just listen to her the world could run more smoothly. She loved her niece and nephews and endlessly played dress up, race car driver, and card shark with each of them growing up. As adults she was their trusted friend and advisor and an integral part of their lives. She was a great correspondent writing old fashioned letters that combined equal parts humor and news with bits of advice tucked in. Part of an extended, blended family, Mindy will be especially missed by her dearest nephew, Benjamin Stephen Stimson; her niece and nephew, Hannah and Eli Rushing; her aunt, Ruth Stimson; her sister-in-law and her husband, Ellen Stimson and John Rushing; and her kitty, Smudge. At the hospital, nurses and doctors wondered at the constant stream of devoted friends who came to spend time with Mindy and share chatty news and funny stories. She is survived by a vast network of friends who will miss her annual Christmas Cookie Exchange and will be missed especially by Judge Barb Crowder and Larry Taliana her neighbors, game night pals, and friends most dear. She was preceded in death by her much-loved parents, Sheila Eileen Singleton Stimson and Stephen Russell Stimson Jr.; and her brother, Stephen Russell Stimson III.
Services for Mindy will be led by our family friend, Steve Mudge, at a date to be determined during her favorite season this coming spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Metro East Humane Society where cats are treated like people.
We love you Aunt Mindy ...
