Terry Lynn
Edwardsville - Terry Lynn was born on November 17,1944. He died on September 18, 2025.
Terry loved many things. He was passionate about sports, especially baseball which he played throughout his youth including a prominent career at Edwardsville HS alongside his brother Rick, and eventually he played collegiately at the University of Missouri and SIUC. Additionally, he served for many years as a board member of the Edwardsville Little League and the Edwardsville Junior Legion. But he didn't just love baseball. He golfed throughout his life, loved watching football, and was a devoted fan of nearly all sports. There were times when his community sports "passion" spilled over, as he was known to aggravate high school basketball referees to the point of removal.
Terry loved his community. A lifelong resident of Edwardsville, he supported anything that benefitted opportunities for kids, and he was on the board of the Historic Lincoln School Alumni Foundation at the request of his dear friend and neighbor Herman Shaw.
And, he was passionate about pets. One might question his love of cats, even the ones his kids brought home, but no one can doubt his love for dogs: basset hounds, labradoodles, were among his favorites, and his family was never without a four-legged member. When he died in his sleep, his dog Reba was at his side.
Then, there was his love for his yard. If you've seen the gardens at the family home on Jefferson that he cultivated with his wife Susan, you would think he did it professionally. The white picket fence enclosing a menagerie of plants, stone pathways, zoysia grass, and various statuary is the stuff of local wonder. He had an electronic picture frame, the kind that shuffles as many pictures as you care to upload. Terry uploaded the pictures himself. It's not an exaggeration to say that half the pictures were of the various plants in his yard.
And while Terry loved his community, sports, his pets, and his yard, there were two things that were closest to his heart: his friends and his family. He leaves behind golf buddies and bike riding friends: Gary Schumacher, Brian Clawson, Barth Legate, and Eldon Frisse.
When it came to family, Terry was a supportive, passionate, and loving patriarch. He was happiest with his family, and it was as a dad that he earned the nickname for which he was most commonly known, "Big T." As a young father, he was devoted to his three children Stacey, Amy, and Adam. He supported fully their passions and dreams, athletically, personally, and professionally. When his children married, he became an affectionate supportive father-in-law to Kevin, Tina and Dave. When grandkids arrived, he was a kind and loving grandfather to Emma, Meghan, Seth, and Cooper. Big T and "Mo," as Susan became affectionately known, rarely missed a baseball game, a tennis match, a softball game, or a round of golf if the grandkids were playing, even if that meant a trip to Georgia.
But there was one love that captured his heart above all others. He met his wife Susan at the University of Missouri, and the two founded a bond that lasted throughout their lives. They were truly best friends enjoying countless moments together: traveling, working in the yard together, watching the St. Louis Cardinals, caring for the pets, and spending time with their family. So, when he lost Susan a few months ago, we all worried how he would survive. It's true he kept a strong facade, as he never asked for pity, and he knew he was surrounded by those who continued to love him, but perhaps life without her was more than his heart could bear, and so it gave out while he slept.
For Terry Lynn's family and friends, nothing will be the same; he will always be missed. There will be a celebration of life for both Susan and Terry at the Edwardsville Moose Lodge on Thursday, November 6, 5-8 p.m. Condolences may be shared online at
