Edwardsville - Verlene Louise Schwalb, age 85, of Edwardsville, IL, passed at 8:51 am on Monday, October 30, 2023, at her residence with her family by her side. Verlene was born on January 14, 1938, in Fort Russel Township, IL, the daughter of the late Albert H. & Louise A. (Johnson) Bartels. Verlene married Arlyn R. Schwalb on August 2, 1957, at Eden Church in Edwardsville. Besides her husband of 66 years, Verlene is survived by her three sons, Blake Schwalb & wife Natalee, of Worden, IL, Brett Schwalb & wife Tammy, of Moro, IL, and Bart Schwalb & special friend Bridget Beyer, of Edwardsville, IL; six grandchildren, Ben, Brooke, Jack, & RJ Schwalb, and Grant & Trent Connoyer; a brother, Wilburt Bartels & wife Emma Jean, of Brighton, IL; and a sister, Bert Ringering & husband Marvin, of Edwardsville, IL. Besides her parents, Verlene was preceded in death by three sisters Judith Gooch, Janet Kanning, and Beverly Bivens. Verlene worked for Owens Illinois in Godfrey for 38 years. She was a life member of Eden Church, the Circle 5, Home Extension, Monday Card Club, and the O-I retiree girl's group. A visitation will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Eden Church in Edwardsville. Services will follow at 11:00 am at the church with Rev. John Roberts officiating. Interment will be at St. James Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials may be given to Eden Church or the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be expressed online at weberfuneralhome.com.
