CHARLES SNIDER Obituary

SAN ANGELO - Charles L. "Charley" Snider, 70, of San Angelo, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, in San Angelo.Funeral service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in San Angelo with Dr. Kyle Reese, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. A time for viewing will precede the service at 9:30 a.m. Burial will take place at 2 p.m. in Westbrook Cemetery, eight miles west of Colorado City. Charley was born in Colorado City, Texas, to Horace and Dalton Hudson Snider, on Sept. 4, 1934. He was raised by his grandparents, Charley and Florence McCarley Hudson of Colorado City, after the death of his mother. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Martha Matthews Snider. He spent 45 years working in the oilfields for several companies; Sinclair Oil, Dowell Service Company division of Dow Chemical, Western Company of North America, and retired from Acid Engineering of Kilgore, Texas. When Charley was a teenager he gave his heart to the Lord Jesus Christ at a Methodist revival. However, it was not until later in life that he came to a full understanding of what following Christ truly meant and surrendered himself completely to the service of the Lord. He served as a Gideon distributing Bibles and was a deliverer for Meals for the Elderly, but he considered his role as a greeter at First Baptist Church to be his heart's calling. He loved ushering people into the house of the Lord.Charley will be remembered for his charming sense of humor, his giving heart and his unyielding love. He looked forward to the day he would see his Savior face-to-face and now he is walking with him in heaven. Charley's life is a testament of the grace Jesus gives to trade an old lifestyle for a new one."Pappy" or "Charley Pop" loved his wife, children, and grandchildren unconditionally, never giving up hope on those he cared for most. His daily prayer for his family was that they would all love the Lord with their whole hearts and dedicate their lives to glorify Christ. Charley in survived by his wife, Martha; his children, Charles L. Snider Jr. and wife, Shelley, of Mansfield, Texas, Don Michael Snider of Fort Worth, Texas, Destry Parker and husband, Edward, of Manford, Okla., and Dalton Snider and wife, Alex, of Richardson, Texas; his step-children, John Paul Matthews and wife, Valerie, of San Angelo, Texas, James David Matthews and wife, Patsy, of Canyon, Texas, Sharon Rose Matthews of Austin, Texas, and Joe Thad Matthews and wife, Celeste, of The Woodlands, Texas. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.Pallbearers will be Jerry Hambright, Keith Box, Terry Smith, Cecil Tucker, Jean Law, Dick Funk, Delbert Allred and Taylor Norman. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Meals for the Elderly, The Gideons International, or the scholarship fund at First Baptist Church, San Angelo, Texas. The family of Charley would like to extend our most sincere appreciation to the doctors and nurses of Shannon Medical Center of San Angelo and the wonderful family of First Baptist Church San Angelo for all of their love, support, and prayers.Charley's obituary may be viewed online at www.RobertMassie.com.
