ELIZABETH KOEDERITZ Obituary

SAN ANGELO - Elizabeth Shields Koederitz passed away at her home on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, after a short bout with cancer. Memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at Community Hills Christian Church, 3309 Knickerbocker Road, with O'Neal Westbrook and the Rev. Casey Heilman officiating. Elizabeth Ann Shields was born Nov. 6, 1931, in Parma, Ohio, to Katherine and Robert Shields. She attended school in Parma, Ohio, and William Woods College in Fulton, Mo., graduating in 1951. She married Thomas Koederitz on May 17, 1952, in Webster Groves, Mo., and moved to Texas in 1955, locating to San Angelo in 1964. She took pride in raising her four wonderful daughters, Janice, Candice, Jill and Robin. Liz was adventurous and had a wonderful sense of humor. She taught art classes at John Glenn Junior High School and worked as an LVN at Shannon Hospital and private duty. She was involved in local volunteer activities, being a case worker for CASA, a student mentor, delivered Meals for the Elderly and was a board member for Christians in Action. She also was a charter member of College Hills Christian Church, later to become Community Hills Christian Church. Liz looked forward to and enjoyed spending time each year with her children and grandchildren for the past 20 years at South Padre Island beach in the summer, and skiing in Colorado and New Mexico in the winter. She traveled the United States, Canada and Mexico throughout the years, and enjoyed traveling abroad to London, Europe, the Scandinavian countries, Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok and China, fulfilling her lifelong ambition to walk on the Great Wall of China in 1997. Liz was preceded in death by her mother and father. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Tom Koederitz; her daughters, Janice Koederitz Leisering and husband Philip of Austin, Texas, Candice Koederitz of New York City, Jill Schultz of Round Rock, Texas, and Robin Allcorn and husband Greg of San Angelo, Texas; grandsons Thomas F. Koederitz, Aaron and Adam Schultz, and Jerrod, Eric and Tucker Allcorn; her brothers, Robert Wm. Shields and family of Cincinnati, and James C. Shields and family of San Diego. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Meals for the Elderly, Christians in Action or Community Hills Christian Church.

What a wonderful woman she was! I fondly recall all the times she had me over for dinner, tolerated me for who I was, encouraged me to be better. She expressed her patience and warmth by taking me with her family on a summer vacation to Garner State Park. No doubt a wonderful person who will be sorely missed. My prayers are with all the family.
