ELNORA DEAN STEVENSON

HARLINGEN - Mrs. Elnora D. Stevenson, age 95, passed away at Angel Care Acres on Monday, Nov. 20, 2006. She was born in Bronte, Texas, to Walter Lee Dean and Pearl Posey on Jan. 1, 1911, and graduated from San Angelo High School in 1929. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education, and a Master of Education degree from Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos, Texas. She began teaching at Grape Creek near San Angelo in 1929. Other schools she taught at included Roosevelt, Eight Mile, Evergreen, Harper, Live Oak, Cherry Spring and Stonewall. In 1953, She moved to Harlingen, teaching first at Dishman School in Combes until 1970, then Crockett School in Harlingen until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Harlingen, Mid-Valley Retired Teachers Association, The Afflatus Club of Harlingen, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Surviving Mrs. Stevenson are two sons, Robert M. "Bob" Stevenson (Linda) of Lulling, Texas, and James L. Stevenson (Rebecca) of Harlingen, Texas; three granddaughters, Charlotte A. Kretzschmar (Bret) of Midlothian, Texas, Whitney C. Pasicznyk (Adam) of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and Jamie R. Stevenson of San Antonio, Texas; three great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark A. Stevenson in 1965, brother of former Gov. Coke R. Stevenson; and her younger sister, Deanie Dale Lewis (Troy) in 1985. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, at First Methodist Church in Junction, Texas, with graveside service to follow in the city cemetery.
