Eulogio "Veve" Diaz

SAN ANGELO Eulogio "Veve" Diaz of Grape Creek passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010. He was born on Feb. 14, 1936, in San Angelo to Miguel and Angelita Diaz. On Sept. 17, 1955, he married the love of his life, Rachel Morales, of Knickerbocker. Together they made their life here in San Angelo. He started off making a living by picking cotton. Then he became known as one of the best sheep shearers between Texas and Montana. Later on in life he decided to rely on his carpentry skills. About four years ago, he retired and enjoyed life raising his "chivos". However his greatest accomplishment was that of "family." Eulogio was preceded in death by his parents, Miguel and Angelita Diaz; and his brother, Ambrocio Diaz. Survivors include his loving wife, Rachel Diaz of Grape Creek; his sister, Inez Urias of Fort Worth; brother Moses Diaz of Plano; son Jesse Diaz and wife Rosie of Christoval; daughter Angel Hernandez of San Antonio; son Eulogio Diaz Jr. and wife Felipa from Grape Creek; son Antonio Diaz and wife Kyna of Shippensburg, Pa.; and daughter Mary Cantu and husband Sam of San Antonio. Eulogio was further blessed with 13 grandchildren, Manuel Diaz, Andrew Hernandez, Tana Hernandez, Miguel-Angel Diaz, Maria Diaz, Monica Diaz, Shanna Brooks, Rachel Diaz, Morgan Diaz, Angela Leija, Cynthia Lujan, Sam Cantu II and Christopher Cantu. Then came what he called "his rays of sunshine", his great-grandchildren, Kameron and Kristopher Lujan, Gina and Salma Hernandez, Raynen Brooks and Luis Diaz. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces and friends. A rosary will be read at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at Gutierrez Funeral Chapels/North. Mass of Resurrection will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. David Herrera, pastor, officiating. Mr. Diaz will be laid to rest in the Knickerbocker Cemetery. Services have been entrusted to the personal care and direction of the Arnoldo Gutierrez family and Gutierrez Funeral Chapels/North. Pallbearers will be Andrew Hernandez of Fort Bragg, N.C., Manuel Diaz of Abilene, Miguel Diaz of Corpus Christi, Diego Lujan of San Antonio, Jesse Urias of Fort Worth and Ambrose Diaz of San Angelo. Now I can sing and shear a few sheep at the same time. Now I can pick cotton and hunt deer. But most of all, just like a carpenter, I can sit in my Lord's house and enjoy my memories, with my Mama.
