Jerold Lewis Obituary

SAN ANGELO Jerold ?Jerry' Lewis, 77, passed away on May 21, 2010, in San Angelo. He was born June 15, 1932, to Harry and Etra Lewis in Ashland Wisconsin. Jerry graduated from Ashland High School in 1950. He enlisted in the United States Air Force, Security Service in 1952. Jerry's overseas tours of duty included Germany, Japan, Greece and Italy where he raised his family. He retired from the USAF in 1972 and then worked as a paint specialist for Lander's Automotive. He is survived by his loving wife, Catherine (Cathy), Mary Lewis of San Angelo; sister Mrs. Frank (Janice) Schannen of Waukesha, Wis.; children Jerry Lewis of Wausau Wis., Sue Groat of Granite Bay, Calif., Terry Lewis of Austin, Judy Gruber of Loomis, Calif., Laura Lewis of Park City, Utah, Sherry Davis of San Angelo; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and son, Scott Taylor. The family expresses sincere gratitude to Jerry's longtime physician, Dr. K. Leckie, Dr. K. Brewer and ICU medical professionals who provided excellent care during his years of health challenges. The loving care from his wife and soul mate, Cathy through these years has been an inspiration to us all. A graveside service will be 10 a.m. today in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the American Lung Association or a charity of your choice. We will miss his sharp wit, sense of humor and his ability to communicate without words through his facial expressions. I had the fortune to work for Jerry while in Misawa AFB, Japan in the late 60's. And I am serious when I say I was fortunate... a 'stand-up' senior NCO, he went to the mat for his troops.

He definitely saved my career from a dismal ending by stepping up to the Wing Deputy Commander and IG on my behalf.....

A great sense of humor, a greater sense of the mission and his duty!

Rest in Peace Jerry - !!!

All our deepest sympathy and thoughts to the family members he left behind!

I worked with Jerry in the 1980's at Paint Specialty. He taught me a lot and helped me out even more. I'm still working there and about every year or so I tell the new employees all my "Jerry" stories.
