John Pickens Obituary

AUSTIN John Jacob Pickens Sr. passed into the arms of our heavenly Father on Saturday, April 13, 2013. He was born Aug. 20, 1925, to Fred and Fleta Pickens in Neosho, Mo. After graduation he joined the Navy, serving in World War II on the USS Pollack. John then earned a BS degree from KU in 1948. After working for National Supply and Rodman Supply, he changed careers and became a stockbroker for Merrill Lynch in Houston and retired at age 70. John was an avid golfer and loved to hunt and fish. He was a wonderful Dad and friend and will be missed by many. Surviving John are his son, John Pickens Jr. and wife Gloria of Austin; daughters Diane Carlton of Houston and Sandy Puckitt and husband Lee of Water Valley; grandsons Lane Puckitt and wife Marcie and Casey Puckitt and wife Berkeley of San Angelo, Kyle Carlton of Houston and Jeff Campbell of Austin; great-grandson Luke Puckitt of San Angelo; and the mother of his three children, Mary Pickens of San Angelo. A celebration of his life will be held at his lake house in Gonzales, Texas, on Saturday, April 27, 2013. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to House of Faith, 321 Montecito, San Angelo, TX 76903; the Multiple Sclerosis Society; or charity of your choice.
