Jose was born March 22, 1929, in San Angelo, to Manuel and Juanita Velasquez. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Felicites Velasquez and Olivia Garza; and his loving wife of 40 years, Catherine Reyes Velasquez. He is survived by two daughters, Velvet Velasquez and Elia Guillen, both of San Angelo, Texas; son Joshua Velasquez of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren, Victor Guillen, Mayron Guillen and Micaelo, Katie, Eliseo, Joshua and Ashley Velasquez, all of San Angelo; two great-grandchildren, Jayden and Adrianna Guillen; four brothers, Bruno, Santos, Steve and Manuel Velasquez; numerous nieces and nephews; and one special nephew, Bruno Velasquez Jr. Jose served in the Korean War until he was honorably discharged. He worked most of his life with Johnson Street Church of Christ. He was a faithful member and minister of the Ben Ficklin Iglesia de Christo. His dedication and faith in the Lord was remarkable and served as an example to all who knew him. Jose was a kind, gentle, honest and humble man. He lived a Christian life. People who met Jose knew right away how dedicated to the Lord he was. He had a big heart, always caring for other people and doing what he could to help others. His grandchildren meant everything to him. He was the best father figure they could have ever had. He will be greatly missed. We love you daddy. If tears could build a stairway And memories a lane I'd walk right up to heaven And bring you home again.
