KIM HALE Obituary
Kim Patrick Hale, 48, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at College Hills Baptist Church with the Rev. Lakan Mariano, minister, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Kim was born on April 8, 1954, in Big Spring, Texas. He graduated from high school in Carencro, La., and attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana and Odessa Junior College before getting his degree in physical therapy from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Dallas. He married Shelli Lawhead in San Angelo on Oct. 3, 1981. He had been employed by West Texas Rehabilitation Center since May of 1978, serving first as a staff physical therapist and subsequently as the director of physical therapy services for WTRC-San Angelo. Kim will be remembered by his immediate family as a devoted and faithful son, husband, father and brother. Many young men will remember him as the coach in soccer or YMCA football, basketball and baseball, who taught them about the sport and, more important, taught them about being good sports and good citizens. Co-workers at West Texas Rehabilitation Center will remember him as the kind of person and the caliber of professional all would strive to be and rehab patients will remember his determination to help them overcome disabling illness or injury. All who knew him - be they family, friends, co-workers or patients - will joyfully remember Kim's dry humor, impish grin, quick wit, gentleness, wisdom, patience and unselfishness. He was truly a man worthy of the love and respect he received from all who knew him. Survivors include his wife, Shelli Hale, son, Matthew Hale, and daughter, Cassie Hale, all of San Angelo; parents, O.D. and Betty Hale of Abilene; sister, Jan Moore of Odessa; and brother, David Hale of Abilene. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Elaine Kiser; sisters-in-law, Rhonda Dobbratz, Kimmie Ray and husband, Marcus, and Nikki Linthicum and husband, Art, all of San Angelo. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive him, as well as especially dear friends, Brett Carpenter and Bruce and Donna Bruton. Pallbearers will be Brett Carpenter, Bruce Bruton, Daniel Merkel, Jim Hadley, Shane Bruton, Camron Seale, Marcus Ray and Art Linthicum. The family requests that memorials be made to West Texas Rehabilitation Center, 3001 S. Jackson, San Angelo, TX 76904.

Two years ago I saw Kim and Shelley in Austin at the Macaroni Grill. At that time, I shook his hand, thanking him for helping me rebuild my life. Again I felt strengthened and encouraged. He was like a guardian angel in a way. His life, to me, was symbolic of strenth and something that goes deeper than words on a page or my ability to explain. I have no doubt that God put him in this world to make it a better place.

Dear Kim: I can only imagine what it was like the moment Jesus meet you at the gate. I can only imagine the love that flowed through your spirit when he wrapped his arms of love around you.I will see you again someday my friend. I love you and miss you till then. Nikki

Dear Kim, Although I did not have the pleasure of knowing you Sir,I feel that the greatness of a person may truly be measured by his offspring. In this sense, your daughter Cassie (my former student and friend) is your living testament of all that is honorable, which you and your family instilled in her. A finer young person surely does not exist anywhere because you were a great father. PLT
