Lowell Wilks Obituary

SAN ANGELO Lowell Efton Wilks III passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014, at the age of 72. He was a 1960 graduate of Lake View High School. He joined the Army and served his country during Vietnam War in two tours and received the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He returned to San Angelo and graduated from Angelo State University in 1974, in English. He had a lifelong career in broadcasting where he work in television and radio in several towns across Texas, including San Angelo, Laredo, Lamesa, Eagle Pass and Abilene. Lowell was born to Lowell E. Wilks II and Louise Jordan Wilks on Nov. 21, 1941, in Robstown, Texas. Both of his parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his son, Mike Wilks and wife Cathy of Sweetwater and son Steven; daughter Diane Wilks Tatum, her husband, John, of Brenham and their son, Jonathan; daughter Amy Wilks Jackson of San Angelo and her children, Kyle, Waylan and Jordan; daughter Raquel Wilks and her daughters, Reece and Ruby of San Angelo; his sister, Carlanne Wilks Taylor and husband Ronnie of Vidor; sister Marion Wilks Boyer and husband Larry of San Angelo; brother David Wilks and wife Rita of Midland; brother George Wilks and wife Patty of Carlsbad, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/Sherwood Way. Online condolences may be made to shafferpioneer.com.
