STEVEN HALFMANN Obituary
SAN ANGELO - On March 28, 2008, Steven E. (Porky) Halfmann died following an accident at work. This was very fitting of Steven, who was always a hard worker, who rarely missed a day at work unless he was going to go play, which he loved to do. Steven was a large man with a big heart, who lived life to the fullest. He was born to Ben J. and Sarah Hoelscher Halfmann on Sept. 9, 1948, in Ballinger, Texas. Steven grew up on a farm in Olfen, Texas, and he never lost his love of the land. His greatest desire always was to own "a place to run hair sheep or goats" and was constantly looking for a "place" in the Thrifty Nickel.Steven married the former Sherry McWright on Aug. 8, 1980, and became the proud father of an instant family. Children of this union include Sharon Kittridge, husband James; Shawn Halfmann; and Randi Havlak, husband Karl. His greatest joys in life were his grandchildren: Brian Gully, Matthew Kittridge, Marcus, Karlin, and Joel Havlak. The funeral service will be at 9 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2008, at St. Luke's Methodist Church, 2781 W. Ave N in San Angelo with interment following in the Lakeview Cemetery in Winters, Texas. Pallbearers will be nephews Jeffrey and Rodney Smith, Jeffrey and Brett Halfmann; Blake Frerich, Russell Hoelscher, John Milam, and David McWright.Steven is survived by his wife, Sherry, and daughters Sharon and Randi. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers, Evelyn Lange, Quinton and Pauline Halfmann, Beatrice and Bernie Michalewicz, Alice and Arnold Frerich, Cornell and Vernon Hoelscher, Bernie and Kay Halfmann, Clyde and Mary Halfmann, and James and Lorene Halfmann. "Uncle Steven" is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Shawn.Memorials may be made in Steven's name to the charity of your choice.

I was So sorry to have learned about Steve, He was a GREAT guy to work with. I met Steve when I started the Amarillo run. He was a jolly guy and fun to work with. We would talk about wood boats mainly. The Cris Craft boats were his favorite, and we also talked about him looking for land. We talked mainly about Alaska, Steven and Sherry's many adventures, their different ways of going and what day excursions were the best. He did love cruising the Alaskas. I have lost a great friend and my heart goes out to Sherry and the kids and extended family, for their loss of a great man. I will greatly miss him.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the family of Steven. I never got to know Steven, however I feel comfortable in saying I did through testaments from other fellow drivers that worked with and around him at Saia. I know he was greatly admired and was a pleasure to be around and work alongside. I'm sure Steven will be greatly missed by friends and family. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of need and hope memories of Steven will last in our hearts forever.
