W.R. Dukes Obituary

IRVING W.R. "Tony" Dukes, afficionado of guitars, bows, guns and God, and one of the last real Texas bluesmen, left us with incredible memories on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at the age of 60. Tony was born April 15, 1952, to the late Faye and Nelson Dukes in Brady, Texas. His life and involvement in the local, national and international blues and rock music scenes from 1970-2000 was defining. He was an avid outdoorsman, bowhunter and marksman. His proudest years and times were spent in humble service and ministry to others as a North Texas Patriot Guard Rider, LPC and chaplain. Tony is survived by his brother, Jackie Dukes and wife Stephanie; his daughter, Kristen Cline; his spiritual father, Deacon Joe Milligan; and many friends and "brothers". To read Tony's biography, please visit memorialwebsites.legacy.com/dukes/Homepage.aspx. Tony's celebration of life service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, within The Harbor Club Fort Worth, 3000 W. 5th St. 76107. In lieu of flowers, Tony made a special reqest for any memorials be made to the North Texas Patriot Guard Riders (txpgr.org). And He said to him, "I assure you: Today you will be with Me in paradise." Luke 23:43

Tony was a neighbor and friend to me back in the 60's. Joe Dell(bass), Bubba Crunk(drummer)and I (guitar)had a local band called the CONTINENTALS and I hope we did something to inspire Tony to pursue the music he loved so much. My first two guitars were Gibson Melody Maker models. We had a old 47' Buick hears and traveled as far as Brownwood in that band wagon to play for dances. I didn't realize back then that Tony may have been watching us and something attracted him to the music business. Jackie his brother and I graduated together in PR in 66'. Jackie if you get this message I'd love to hear from you at [email protected] DW
