Dick Stovall Obituary

Dick Stovall October 9, 1940 - February 10, 2025 Richard Lee Stovall, commonly known as Dick Stovall, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Graham Oaks nursing home in Graham, Texas. Visitation will be held at Morrison Funeral Home in Graham on Sunday, February 16 from 5:00-7:00 pm. A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025 at 1 p.m. in Pioneer Cemetery in Graham.

Dick was born to Tommy Lee and Edmond Jefferson Stovall on October 9, 1940, in Amarillo, Texas. He eventually grew up to attend Amarillo High School where he met the love of his life, Sylvia Findley. This beast married his beauty on Halloween, October 31, 1958, where the precedent was set to celebrate their anniversary forever dressed as a variety of characters throughout the years.

Dick and Sylvia soon started a family, and not long after that, Dick was baptized and found a deep love for our Lord. He eventually attended Sunset School of Preaching in Lubbock, Texas, and graduated as a minister for the Church of Christ. This was only the beginning of Dick's passion for the Lord and because of what the Lord accomplished in his life, he wanted to share it with as many people as possible. Dick dedicated his life to spreading the gospel, serving as a stateside missionary and preacher in Texas, Missouri, Wyoming, and even the bustling streets of New York City. He eventually left the mission field and settled as the preacher at Eastside Church of Christ in Graham, Texas where he preached for sixteen years. His sermons were filled with wisdom, compassion, and an unshakable faith in God. He touched countless lives, offering guidance, encouragement, and the love of Christ to all who crossed his path.

But Dick wasn't just a man of the pulpit-he was a man of music, mischief, and melody. A gifted tenor, he sang in choirs, filled church pews with the sound of hymns, and carried that same spirit into his home. Whether leading worship or simply humming a tune while making breakfast, music was always in his heart. Some mornings, much to his children's dismay, it was on full display. Without fail, he would wake them with a boisterous, theatrical rendition of "Oh, What a Beautiful Morning"-the more they cringed and hid under the covers, the louder he sang. He also had a deep love for classics, often playing the albums of Neil Diamond, Frank Sinatra, and The Eagles to mention a few. It was much to the delight (or occasional torment) of those around him.

Above all, Dick was a devoted family man. His love for his wife, children, and grandchildren was unwavering. He led his family with kindness, faith, and a steadfast belief in the power of love and prayer. He lived his life fully, filling it with laughter, faith, and song, leaving a legacy of joy that will echo in the hearts of those who loved him.

Dick was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sylvia, on October 19, 2023, his parents Tommy Lee and Edmond Jefferson Stovall, and two siblings Sherry Kay Stovall and Gene Lyon and granddaughter, Sara Olivia Talbott. He is survived by his oldest daughter, Stacy Stovall, and her husband Doug, son Scott Stovall and wife Leonie, and youngest daughter Stephanie Talbott, and husband Harry. He is also survived by grandchildren Adonia Faulkner, Kelly and Chris Baker, Latishna and Matthew Harris, and Molly Talbott. Finally, he was survived by great-grandchildren Morgan, Meredith, Riley, Nathanael, Reid, Charlotte, Eli, and Ember, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Though we grieve his passing, we take comfort in knowing that he now sings in the heavenly choir, his voice forever lifted in praise. His laughter, his music, and his love will never be forgotten. He is walking the streets of gold with his loving wife Sylvia and granddaughter Sara.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Graham Crisis Center in his honor.
