Arlene Ann Urbanik, age 94, of Grand Haven, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Grand Pines Assisted Living. She was born on December 18, 1930, in Grand Rapids, MI, to the late Richard and Leona (Simmons) Shuker.
She married Robert Urbanik on April 27, 1957, in Grand Rapids. He preceded her in death on October 18, 2003, after 46 years of marriage.
Arlene graduated from Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School in 1949 and went on to graduate from St. Mary's School of Nursing. She worked as a Pediatric Nurse at the former North Ottawa Community Hospital for most of her career until her retirement.
Arlene was a faithful, longtime member of St. Patrick Church of St. Patrick – St. Anthony Parish and was also a member of the American Legion, Charles A. Conklin Post 28 Auxiliary. She also volunteered at Robinson Elementary School for several years, helping kids with reading.
Arlene enjoyed sewing and needlework, spending time up north at the family cabin, and especially spending time with her family. She loved the Detroit Tigers and faithfully watched their games, along with the Detroit Lions and U of M football, and Detroit Red Wings Hockey.
Arlene will be lovingly remembered and missed by her daughter, Kimberly Whalen (Steven Currie); two sons, Pete (Karen) Urbanik and Jeff (Karen) Urbanik; eight grandchildren: Valerie (Kenny) Harding, Nathan (Emily) Urbanik, Nic (Bella) Whalen, Ian (Marissa) Whalen, Todd (Holleigh) Urbanik, Ashleigh (Jeff) Elzinga, Nicole (Chris) Hollen, and Drew Hunt; several great-grandchildren; her brother, Gerard (Ellen) Shuker; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; and son-in-law, Chris Whalen (2017).
The Funeral Mass for Arlene will take place at 11 a.m., on Tuesday October 21, 2025, at St. Patrick Church of St. Patrick – St. Anthony Parish with Fr. Norm Droski officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Grand Haven Township Historic Cemetery. Memorial
