Frances Jeanne Nietering, age 103 of Ferrysburg, MI, died on Monday, May 15, 2023 at Robbinswood Assisted Living.
She was born on October 14, 1919 in Ferrysburg, MI to the late John and Clara (Westhoff) Katt.
Jeanne married Albert "Bud" Nietering on July 3, 1939 in Napoleon, OH, later moving to Spring Lake, MI. He preceded her in death on October 16, 2009, after 70 years of marriage.
Jeanne graduated from Grand Haven High School in 1937 and attended Muskegon Business School. She worked as a Secretary at various companies in the area, and later, had her own catering business, catering many weddings and special events.
Jeanne was a former longtime member of Christ Community Church, all the way back to the days when it was still the First Reformed Church of Spring Lake. She taught Christian Endeavor and was Chairwoman of the Kitchen Committee, also serving on the Luncheon Committee and Ladies Aid Society.
Jeanne loved to play Bridge, enjoyed knitting and sewing, and in her younger years, tending to her flower beds, square-dancing and bowling.
She and Bud especially enjoyed the outdoors. Together, they enjoyed swimming, boating, and fishing, and they were avid R.V.er's who loved to travel. They traveled all over the country to many places including Alaska, Canada, and Mexico, visiting numerous National Parks.
Jeanne especially enjoyed learning about her family history and took up interest in genealogy, and collected many family antiques throughout the years.
Jeanne is will be lovingly remembered and missed by her son, Michael (Vicky) Nietering of Monroe, MI; her granddaughter, Susan (Dennis) Groom; great-grandson, Carter Groom; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Janice Goldfield (2017); grandson, Christopher Goldfield (2005); sister, Clarissa Bosma; brothers, Jack and Howard Katt; and several in-laws.
The Funeral Service for Jeanne will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Klaassen Family Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Spring Lake Township Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Gideon's International or Harvest Church-Spring Lake Campus.
