Robert Milton Sovis, 90, of Jupiter, Florida, passed away from this life on Friday, May 20, 2022.
Robert was born on November 10, 1931, in Grand Haven. Robert left school at an early age related to a disease that took his eyesight, as well as his sister Elaine's vision. In his early teens, living close to Lake Michigan, he secured many jobs related to the boating and fishing industry of the local area. In 1952, he married Rose Kline and not soon after purchased the Grand Haven marina. During the winter season, Robert and Rose would travel to Florida for warmer weather, until Lake Michigan thawed out again. In 1959, they gave birth to their daughter, Linda. Working on the water came with its challenges having a toddler, but they managed a successful marina. Soon Linda would be entering elementary school, so he and his wife decided to sell the marina and move full time to Riviera Beach, Fla. Upon his relocation to Florida, Robert took a full-time job with Rybovich in West Palm Beach, until his retirement in 1989. They had a second child, Michael, in 1965.
Robert and his family were longtime members of Northwood Baptist Church, as well as Church in the Farms (Jupiter). As his health started to fail, he then became committed to listening to gospel teaching every morning on the TV.
Robert Sovis is survived by his two children, Linda (Kerry) Keathley of Rotonda West, Fla., and Michael Sovis (Christopher Scholl) of Jupiter, Fla; three grandchildren: Abby (Tanner) Pembroke, Courtney (Eric) Surprenant and Sean Keathley; four great-grandchildren: Savannah and Ashlyn Pembroke, and Luke and Isaac Surprenant. He is also survived by his siblings, all who reside in Grand Haven: Beverly (Robert) Avery, Douglas (Diane) Sovis, Kenneth Sovis (Larry Kimball), and sister-in-law Sally Kline, as well as a host of local neighbors and friends in Jupiter Farms that became his second family that he really cared deeply about.
He was preceded in death by his loving, caring wife of 63 years, Rose Kline Sovis; his parents, Milo and Jennie Sovis; sister, Elaine Griswold, and James Griswold; and brother-in-law Vern Kline.
There will be a graveside ceremony at 11 a.m. May 27, 2022, at the Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery at 19351 County Line Road, Tequesta, FL 33469. Robert always had a special dog in his life: Blacky, Sherrie, Kelly, Gretchen and Riley. His love for animals met no boundary.
