It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Ruth Charlotte Zanfardino. Ruth joined our heavenly Father on Thursday, April 17, 2025, in Grand Haven.
She was born on February 13, 1938, to Joseph and Mary Clara (Perry) McGregor in Peekskill, N.Y., and raised in Brooklyn, and was the fifth of seven children. Ruth married the love of her life, Joseph Zanfardino, on June 2, 1956, in Brooklyn, New York. She was a devoted Air Force wife for more than 20 years and lived all over the U.S. and abroad before settling on Long Island, N.Y., in 1963. In 1993, after 25 years of dedicated service, Ruth retired from Central Islip State Psychiatric Hospital as a therapy aide. Ruth, her husband, Joe, and daughter, Caroline, relocated to West Michigan to be close to family.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Joseph Zanfardino; and six children: Catherine Johnson, Joseph Zanfardino Jr., Susan (Earl) Martin, Robert, Caroline, John (Kathy) Zanfardino; bonus daughter, Debra; and sister, Susan McGregor. Ruth also leaves behind 10 grandchildren: Michael (Amy), Jessica (Mike), Lauren, Rachel, Joey (Jackie), Kyle (Katelyn), Anna, Isabella, Lilliana and Creighton; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five siblings; and a great-granddaughter, Lily.
Ruth lived for her family with every ounce of her being and showed nothing but kindness and love to everyone she met. She will be dearly missed here on earth but has found her home with our Lord.
The Funeral Service for Ruth will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at St. Patrick Church of St. Patrick – St. Anthony Parish in Grand Haven, with Father Dan Schumaker officiating. Interment will be at Lake Forest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Health at Home Hospice – Grand Haven.
