Robert Louis Summers passed away peacefully, surrounded by family the day preceding and day of, on July 30, 2024, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, after courageously managing Parkinson's disease for several years. He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn J Summers, of 66 years of marriage, his parents, Dorothy and Ed Summers, sisters Marilyn Lincoln and Susie Mackin. He is survived by his loving family: three children, Mike Summers of East Grand Rapids, Michigan; Mary Cudney (Gary) of Portage, Michigan; and John Summers (Kristina) of Delavan, Wisconsin, and beloved sister and brother, Pat Summers and Tom Summers of Jackson, Michigan. Additionally, he leaves behind ten grandchildren, Jennifer, Julie, Rebecca, Ryan, Nick, Andrew, Steven, RJ, Kyle, and Matthew, along with an astounding 29 great grandchildren, whom he loved much! Bob was born on August 14, 1938, in Jackson, Michigan. In 1957, he married Marilyn, and in 1963, they moved to Grand Rapids. Bob began his produce career with his father at Wolverine Produce Co., buying, selling and delivering produce throughout central Michigan. Thereafter, he dedicated much of his career to Meijer, building and expanding Meijer Produce with high quality, innovative items and selection and great value for their customers. Bob's zest for life was evident in his passion for staying active. He was an avid walker, jogger, golfer, bicyclist, and downhill skier when the weather turned cold. Over the years, family vacations to Timber Shores, South Haven, Crystal Mountain, Hilton Head, Colorado, and Utah created many cherished memories. In retirement, Bob enjoyed his summers in Grand Rapids with family and friends, and his winters with the sunshine and warmth of Florida. His love of life, humor, and hearty laughter are a legacy his family continues to embody. His absence leaves an indelible mark in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Bob was a devout Catholic and faithful parishioner at St. Robert of Newminster Parish during the summer & Resurrection of Our Lord over the winters. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Roberts at 6477 Ada Drive S.E., Ada, Michigan on Monday, August 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM with Father Tony Russo. There will be a reception and luncheon in the parish cafeteria from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM following the Funeral Mass. Additionally, there will be a visitation at Arsulowicz Brothers Mortuary at 3525 Remembrance Road, NW, Walker, Michigan on Sunday, August 4th from 3:00 PM to 4:45 PM with a Rosary service from 4:45 PM to 5:00 PM and another visitation at St. Robert of Newminster Parish on Monday, August 5th from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, preceding Mass. A private interment will be held at St. John's Cemetery in Jackson, Michigan.
