Lonnie Lee Palkki
1952-2024
Lonnie Lee Palkki, 72, sadly passed away on November 24, 2024 after a brutal battle with colon cancer. Lonnie was born to Lauri and Betty Palkki on April 10, 1952 in Grand Rapids. After graduating high school, he went on to study radiology, served in the U.S. Army and retired from both Hibbing and Eveleth Taconite mines.
Lonnie is remembered as a passionate outdoorsman whether it was fishing, hunting, bird watching, gardening, four wheeling, snowmobiling, camping or traveling. Many will recall his tinkering, endless fix-it projects, his keen sense of duty, avid love of country, his kindness towards others and inclinations to extend a helping hand, having a big heart and an eager willingness to forgive, unconditional love for family and never-ending faith in God.
Lonnie is survived by his loving wife, Dana, of 6 years as well as his children Bobbi (Bill) Olson, Billi (Miles) Sticka, Adam (Lindsey) Palkki, Aaron (Siama) Palkki, Patrick (Kerry) Palkki, Cody (Kylie) Palkki and Cheyenne Palkki, several step-children, 21 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Also, survived by siblings Leonard (Sherry) Palkki, Betty (George) Will, and Janie (Sam) Alford, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members near and dear to his heart.
To his sister, Lonnie will always be her 'Grizzly Adams of the north,' to his wife, her 'honey-bunny,' and to his daughter, she'll always be Lonnie's 'Bobs.' Lonnie was a rare soul and will be greatly missed.
Please join us in a joyous potluck celebration of Lonnie's life, Sunday, December 15 from 12-4 p.m. at the Blackberry Town Hall, 25349 Dove Lane, Grand Rapids, MN 55744.
At the celebration, plans to honor Lonnie in both his service of country and final wishes will be discussed. A ceremony will be held at the Veteran's Cemetery in Duluth and a road trip is being organized to spread his ashes. Both are planned for either late spring or early summer. Precise details will be forwarded once they have been drawn up to all who extend an interest in participating in those activities.
