Mary Lou Hafeman
1931 - 2025
Mary Lou Hafeman, 94, of Bigfork passed away at her home at the Bigfork Valley Villa with family by her side.
Mary was born September 12, 1931 in McGregor to William and Olga (Bade) Johnston, the middle child of seven siblings. She had many wonderful stories of her childhood growing up on Forest Lake in Marcell. She attended grade school in Marcell and then moved to Grand Rapids to finish school graduating in the class of 1950. She married Stewart Hafeman on December 8th 1951, he was the love of her life. They had four children, two sons and two daughters. She worked side by side with Stewart in the family logging business. She operated a cable skidder and used a smaller chain saw for limbing. They had a small hobby farm consisting of a milk cow, chickens, ducks and later a horse. They always had a big garden in which she canned many vegetables providing food for the family. Mary and Stewart worked side by side together until his unexpected passing in 1976.
Mary started working at Nathe Drug and Ben Franklin Store in 1978. Mary learned at a young age to sew and soon became the "Fabric Lady" working in the sewing and craft department. She met many lifelong friends while working there. She worked there many years until its closing when she then retired. She loved sewing, working on crafts, gardening and being outdoors. She adored her eight grandchildren who lit up her life with love, laughter and excitement. She took great delight in attending many school programs, stock car races, horse shows and ball games. She was a very proud Grandma. She also had five great grandchildren that brought her much happiness and she loved dearly.
Mary is survived by her sons Steve( Wendy) Hafeman and Scott Hafeman, her daughters Christie (Ray) Boessel and Sheila (Jeff Holsman) Hafeman, her grandsons Rodney (Theresa) Hafeman, Lucas (Melissa) Hafeman, Jesse (Kristin) Boessel, Dan Boessel, Allan Hafeman, Cody Hafeman and granddaughter Kacey (Tyrus) Hafeman, Her great grandsons Zachary Hafeman, Greyson Ross and great granddaughters Kylie Boessel, Amelia Boessel and Mackenzie Hafeman.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents William and Olga (Bade) Johnston, her husband Stewart Hafeman, grandaughter Kelby Hafeman, her two brothers and four sisters.
A very special thank you to the nurses and staff at Bigfork Valley Villa for the excellent care given to Mary. She loved you all dearly.
