Duaine Merle Kimpling was born on September 14, 1940, in Crate Township to Merle Philip and Anna Josephine (Specht) Kimpling. He grew up on the family farm just outside of Gluek and attended school in Maynard, graduating with the class of 1958. He then served in the Minnesota National Guard.
On July 24,1965, Duaine was united in marriage to Kathleen Marie Osberg. They made their home just outside of Granite Falls where Duaine worked for UPS for almost 34 years before retiring. He loved driving, always game for a Sunday drive along the river bottom looking for deer and DQ treats. Joining him on those Sunday drives were his wife Kathie and their daughters or one of his brothers.
Duaine was a devoted husband and son, loving father and grandfather, and loyal friend. His family and friends enjoyed his witty sense of humor as well as his penchant for working hard and playing hard! He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting and golfing. Playing cards was a vocation for the entire Kimpling family, complete with all of their well-known one liners!
Duaine and Kathie enjoyed their retirement years between Minnesota and Arizona. He told Kathie, "We may have to be old but we don't have to be cold!"
Duaine's family and friends gathered to support his beautiful bride and daughters as they cared for him at home in his final days. There were many memories shared with abundant laughter and tears. Surrounded by his family, Duaine went to be with Jesus on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 5:43 p.m. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate caregivers at Avera Hospice and Clara City Care Center.
Duaine is survived by his devoted wife Kathleen; loving daughters - Laura Kimpling of Belgrade, Michelle (and Kelly Meier) Kimpling of Beresford, S.D., Maren (and Joshua) Ettesvold of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren - Lauren Tonn, Alysa Eckstein, Adam Leedahl, Sarah Feely, Joshua Fitzgerald, Jack Fitzgerald, Jacob Ettesvold, Erik Ettesvold, Maija Ettesvold; great-grandchildren - Aubree, Charlotte, Hadlee, Camden, Oaklynne, Miles, Graham and Baby Fitzgerald; siblings - Merlen (and Lee) Kimpling and Linda Grussing.
Duaine was preceded in death by his parents Merle and Anna Kimpling; brothers, brother-and sisters-in-law - Leslie and Janice Kimpling, Ronald and Linda Kimpling, Gerald Kimpling, Dalen Grussing; and his cherished grandson Samuel Fitzgerald. We celebrate their reunion in the Kingdom of God.
