Brian Divine Obituary

HELENA - Brian Lyle Divine, 47, of Helena, died of heart problems Thursday at his home.
Visitation is noon to 6 p.m. today at Retz Funeral Home in Helena. A celebration of life memorial service is 4 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
Brian is survived by his wife, Cari Divine, and their two sons, Josh Divine and Wes Divine, all of Helena; his parents, Don and Phyllis Divine of Livingston; his sister, Kelley Divine of Tacoma, Wash.; and his best friend, Wes Mikkola of Portland, Ore.
Brian was born Jan. 18, 1962, in Livingston, Mont., where he was raised during his childhood. He graduated in 1980 from Park Senior High School and, in 1990, received a double major from Montana State University with degrees in history and German. On Dec. 21, 1991, he married his soul mate and the love of his life, Cari Lind in Helena.
Brian had been working for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana since May 4, 1999. Prior to that, he was employed by the State of Montana for the Department of Administration in ITSD. He went to school for liberal arts, but ended up using his self-taught computer skills to advance his career opportunities.
Brian always had a passion for keeping busy with many hobbies. Some of these included coaching his son's baseball teams, photography, sketching, model railroading, golfing and playing guitar. He was also a Weight Watchers leader and loved his Saturday meetings and his members. He loved to travel and visit historic sites. His favorite holiday was Christmas, and we always thought he was a Santa Claus.
Brian's grandfather built a cabin in Luccock Park near Livingston in 1929. Brian's favorite memories come from this cabin. He will be there in spirit and we will visit him often.
Brian had the biggest heart in the universe and he gave so much of it that there wasn't enough left for him. He loved his family and his life and he will be deeply missed.
Memorials may be sent to the Wesley Divine Education Fund, 903 Hollins Ave., Helena, MT 59601.
Condolences may be left online at www.RetzFuneralHome.com and/or www.gftribune.com/obituaries.

Just as I said in 2019....I will never forget Brian. He was a gentle giant and a hard worker. I lost my 52 year old son, Tony in December and truly feel your pain. Life is growing a little brighter as the months have gone by, but the little things make your heart ache, each day. I'm sure that Tony and Brian have met in heaven and they are both happy and watching over us. My sorrow will always be with the Divine family, and especially Kellie who was Tony's friend when he needed one the most and far afterwards. God bless you always.

I will never forget Brian and I've thought about him often since his untimely death. He cooked for my husband and me in our Chinese Restaurant in Livingston and was a delight to be around. He always kept us laughing with his inventive names for the food and funny little stories. He was dependable and an excellent worker. I hope his family has been able to go on without him, and I know your grief while turning to sadness, has also grown lighter in remembering the fine man he was. God bless you all...

To Divine Family:

So sorry to hear of your loss. I also remember Brian as a child at Luccock Park. Remember him playing with our sons at the park. Wonderful times! His grandmother Mildred and my mom Orrilla are sisters.

May God be with you in your sorrow!

We are so sorry for your loss.

I will always remember Brian's kindness working w/him doing computer support. He also taught classes at Helena VoTech. Once I told him I was interested in learning German. He proceeded to use the whole blackboard, excitedly, teaching me German! What a friend.

All our love and in our prayers,

The Divine Family

Words cant express how my heart hurts for you a this time. Brian was a great guy and a dear friend. Even though it had been a few years since I talked with him, we had a great time remembering running around the cabin with the metal detectors looking for hidden treasure and just knew we would find it someplace. My Thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

This summer I once again spoke with Brian as he was working on his cabin. As a child Brian played with my son Jim either playing baseball or playing in the creek. His passing truly hurts my heart. Brian always crossed the meadow between his cabin and ours ( The McGee Cabin ) and always talked to Wally, my dad. When Dad passed in '07 Brian was there to give us his thot's and memories. That meant a lot to my sister, Beverly, and myself. I know that Brian is in good hands and has many people with him now that have gone before him and will always be part of Luccock's history. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with his family. Laura Fox( McGee)

My daughter and I lived next to Don's parents at one time. They were the nicest people and I'm sure Brian inherited it. I'm sorry for your loss

Please accept my sincerest condolences over the loss of your dear loved one. I worked with Brian every day when I was a teenager waiting tables at my family's restaurant in Livingston where he was a cook. Brian was a conscientious person of substance who clearly possessed a quiet soul and a heart of gold. I am sure he will be missed by many.

I am so sorry to hear of Brian's untimely death, and my prayers and thoughts are with all of his family during this sad time. Brian worked for my husband, Ben, and me at the Canton Restaurant in Livingston, as a cook, before he went to college. He was a joy to be around and a responsible and diligent employee. Ben is gone and Brian will meet him there, where they will have some great chats. We had many employees that came and went,in our businesses, but Brian was unforgetable!

My parents built a cabin next to the Divine cabin at Luccock Park. I remember Brian coming to his grandparent's cabin and playing in Pine Creek.
