Delores Lillian Evenson

Great Falls - Delores Lillian Evenson, 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, June 7, 2021.

Born on October 9, 1928 in Bengough, Saskatchewan to Ernest N. Long and Esther L. (Tollefson) Long; she was one of five children. Delores moved with her family to Wolf Point, MT at an early age where she was raised. Her high school years were spent working at the local café and for the local telephone company.

Delores was married to Kenneth Evenson in Plentywood, MT on January 31, 1948. They were blessed with two children Ronald and Holly. The couple farmed in Raymond, MT and moved to Great Falls in 1955 when her husband got a job for the Great Northern Railroad. She has since resided in Great Falls and they were the first family to move to the Riverview Addition in 1957 and lived there until just one month ago. Delores loved digging in her flowers and sitting on her patio having a barbecue or watching birds and squirrels.

While in Great Falls, Delores was always involved in her local church as a Sunday School teacher, president of the ECNA Women's Ministry and chairman of the local chapter of Christian Women's Club for many years hosting many coffee clubs and training others to share their faith. She also served as area representative for Christian Women's Club. She hosted many missionary families into her home. She worked as a bridal consultant for Mazie's Dress Shop and volunteered for the Great Falls Rescue Mission. We can't remember a time when she wasn't a greeter in her church making everyone feel welcome especially the children. Of paramount importance to her, was that everyone had the opportunity to know and accept Jesus Christ as their Savior. Delores loved her extended family and was always very generous with them. It was very important to her that all of her children and grandchildren got a college education and she made sure that it happened. She could often be seen on the soccer sidelines cheering her grandchildren along or attending all their special events. She was fondly known as Grammy to her granddaughter and great-grandchildren.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 62 years, Kenneth Evenson, sister Bernice Coffman, and brothers Clayton, Dale and Russell Long.

Survivors include son, Ron Evenson (Melissa) of Rapid City, SD, and daughter, Holly Evenson Schmidt (Russ) of Eugene, OR, three grandchildren Kyle (Amber) Evenson of Lakeville, MN, Erik (Mary) Evenson of Shoreline, WA, and Kelsey (Ryan) Black of Portland, OR and four great-grandchildren, Stella and Grady, MN and Arianna and Rowan, WA.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 pm Sunday, July 11, 2021 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Great Falls, MT. Pastor Jeff Lauver will officiate.

Memorials can be made to Great Falls Rescue Mission.

Delores was a mentor and a good friend to me when I was a young Christian. She and Ken were a Blessing to me, and I think of them both with fond memories. Blessings and prayers for your loss, Ron, Holly and families.
