Frances Taborek Obituary

Frances Ann (Dostal) Taborek, 96, of Great Falls, died after a short illness Friday, May 20, at a local hospital.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at O'Connor Memorial Chapel. Funeral Liturgy is at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Frances was born April 4, 1915, near Iliad, Chouteau County, to Frank and Marie (Loub) Dostal, both of whom emigrated from Moravia, Austria-Hungary, in 1906.

After graduating from eighth grade at Coffee Creek, Judith Basin County, she went to work in Great Falls as a nanny and housekeeper until she married Frank J. Taborek on May 1, 1934. She and her husband then farmed on Square Butte bench east of Geraldine, Chouteau County, where she was a member of the Altar Society at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Geraldine until they moved to Great Falls in 1951.

In Great Falls, she was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, the Council of Catholic Women, and had been active in St. Gerard's Catholic Church Circle service group. She enjoyed playing cards and gardening and had really enjoyed bowling, being named Great Falls senior woman bowler of the year at one time.

The family rejoices that Frances was able to celebrate her 96th birthday with her family and friends. She lived at home until her death. The family is especially grateful to her daughter, Mary Lou, who provided wonderful care for her over the past 11 years, enabling her to live in her home.

She is survived by four sons, Edward of Springfield, Va., Joseph of Huntersville, N.C., Larry (Frances) Taborek of Clements, Md., and Stephen (Vicki) Taborek of Chanhassen, Minn.; three daughters, Mrs. Margaret (M.L.) Scroggins of Cataula, Ga., Mrs. Barbara (Daniel) Majerus of Columbus, Mont., and Mary Lou Shelton of Great Falls; one sister, Mrs. Lillian (Earl) Bourne of Great Falls, 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 55 years; one infant daughter, Karen Michelle; five sisters, and four brothers.

Memorials may be given to Angela's Piazza, Attn. Sr. Mary Dostal, 420 Grand Ave., Billings, MT 59102.

Our condolences to all of the Taborek family. In the past 5 years we were fortunate to have several chats with Aunt Frances at mom and dad's anniversary celebrations and the twins 90th. She was interested in everyone and everything. We will treasure the photos of her from those events. Mary Lou, you gave your mom the priceless gift of staying in her own home - how wonderful for both of you. Sincerely, Pat (Bourne) McGuigan, Peter, Claire & John

What a wonderful lady Aunt Frances was. She was a true testimony of how to grow old gracefully and get the most out of life while you can. Just saw her in February and thought she looked great.
