Jim Souther Obituary

Jim B. Souther

Jim Souther, 68, passed away May 21 at his home in Seattle. He was born Jan. 14, 1949 in Powers Lake, N.D., the son of Orville and Violet Souther, one of 5 children.

The family moved to Montana in 1950 and settled north of Shelby. Jim attended grade school in Oilmont and, after moving to Shelby, graduated from Shelby High School in 1967. That fall he enlisted in the U.S. Army and spent 2 years in Vietnam. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Infantry Badge, among many others.

After returning from service, he was married to Denise Lagervall and they were blessed with 3 children: Shane, Angela (Sissy) and Rachelle. Jim owned a landscaping business for a time before going to work at Aldrich Construction, until he retired in 2007.

He was proud of his military service and was very patriotic, having the U.S. flag flying every day.

He is survived by his son Shane of Sun City, AZ; daughters Sissy Willson and Rachelle Holthaus of Stanwood, WA; 11 grandchildren: Corbin, Bailey and Riley Souther, Casey, Cameron, Derik and Dillon Willson, Michael, Max, Mathias, and Madyson Holthaus; brothers Roger and Len of the Seattle area; and sisters Judith Boutin and Nancy Nasset of East Helena, MT.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Violet Souther; and a nephew Brian Boutin.

A military service will be held July 10 at 1 p.m. at the Tahoma National Veterans Cemetery in Kent, WA. A memorial service is planned in Shelby for a later date.
