Joyce J. Taber

Mesa —Joyce J. Taber passed away May 30, 2014, after spending a few days at the Baltimore Street Care Home in Mesa, Arizona. She lived independently until taking up residency shortly after her 90th birthday at the Citadel, an assisted living facility in Mesa. She was born April 11, 1922 in Wolf Point, Montana to Delbert and Zell Witt. She was loved by all for her spunk, classy dressing, and frank honesty. She was referred to as a "legend" by all who knew her. Joyce attended school in Wolf Point, graduating from Wolf Point High in 1940. She went to beauty school in Denver, Colorado and then moved to Glasgow, Montana to work as a beautician. After a few months she decided to move to Washington D.C. She took the civil service exam and went to work as a secretary for the World War Production Board. While there she met and married Frank M. Johnston II on May 29, 1942. They had two children, Frank Morgan and Gail Ann. The marriage ended in divorce. Joyce moved to Great Falls, Montana in early 1950 and shortly thereafter met Howard Taber. They were married on September 27, 1950. They lived in Great Falls until 1970 and then moved to Casper, Wyoming. When Howard retired in 1976 they moved to Sunland Village in Mesa, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Howard, on November 25, 2003. She is survived by her two children, Frank M. Taber, his friend Robin Crouch, Gail A. Heller and her husband Jack, two grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
