Patsy Whitehorn Obituary

Patsy Yvonne (Jourdonais) Whitehorn, 81, died of a stroke Sunday, Dec. 18, at Peace Hospice.

Her funeral is 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, with burial at the family farm. Croxford Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Patsy lived her dream life as a farmer's wife, relishing her roles as wife, mother, homemaker, cook, gardener, seamstress, and especially grandmother.

She was born Oct. 26, 1930, in Great Falls, Mont., to Fern and Lucian Jourdonais. Patsy graduated from GFHS in 1948 and attended MSU Bozeman, majoring in home economics. She married Dwight Ulrich in 1950, and they had three children together. When they divorced in 1955, Patsy returned to Great Falls, where she crossed paths with Stanley Whitehorn, "the kindest, most polite man" she ever met. They wed in 1956 and built their life and family together on Whitehorn Farms. This union blessed them with two more children.

Patsy was an active participant in their farming community north of Great Falls as a 4-H leader, election judge and member of the Portage Home Demonstration Club. As her nest emptied in the 1970s, she busied herself working at Discount Fabrics, followed by many years as the treasured receptionist at Skyline Veterinary Clinic. Her love of children and animals showed in the many needy and homeless pets she cared for over her lifetime, and in the dozens of handmade quilts she lovingly and anonymously donated to the children at the Mercy Home. She and Stanley made a once-in-a-lifetime 25th anniversary trip to Hawaii in 1981, one of the few times she was able to get Stan off the farm for a real vacation.

She is survived by her children, Brian Whitehorn of Bend, Ore., Dr. Becky Jourdonais and Vicki Peterson (Jerry), both of Great Falls, Dr. Wendy Whitehorn (David Brastrup) of Dutton and Earl Whitehorn (JoAnne) of the family farm near Floweree; a sister, Rae Letz of Phoenix; a brother, Jack Jourdonais (LaVerne) of Melissa, Texas; six grandchildren and one great-grandson; numerous nieces and nephews; and her precious kitties, Purrdy and Mimi.

Patsy was preceded in death by her parents; and her beloved husband Stanley.

Memorials may be made to Peace Hospice; The Mercy Home; or the Animal Foundation of Great Falls.
