Robert Harshbarger Obituary

SHELBY - Robert D. Harshbarger, 72, of Shelby, a retired oil field worker, died of natural causes Wednesday at a Shelby hospital.
At his request, cremation has taken place and no services will be held. Whitted Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Marilyn of Shelby; a son, Randal of Shelby; daughters Carolyn Zachary of Boulder, Judy Abell of Campbellsville, Ky., and Tina (Dan) Roark of Oilmont; siblings Galen Harshbarger, Minnie Richardson, Carol Torpen, Gloria (Tom) Caudill, Ann Carter, Bonnie Mudget, and Evelyn Miller; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert D Harshbarger; brothers Vernon, Jasper, Jeremiah, Joe, Jim, Shep and Vince Harshbarger; and sisters Madelyn Brown, Jane Reidinger, Lone Lagerquist, Bess Kerlin and Libby Egeberg.
Robert was born Feb. 2, 1936, to John F. and Mayree (Ruckman) Harshbarger. He grew up on the family farm north of Antelope, Mont., where he attended elementary and high school. He and Marilyn Jean LaGrange were married on June 4, 1955, in Plentywood, Mont., and moved to Shelby in 1966.
Robert worked for the Great Northern Railroad, in the oil fields, as a meat cutter and as a farm laborer.
Robert was a member of the Masons Blue Lodge and the First Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, painting and playing chess.
The family suggests memorials be donated to the charity of the donor's choice in his name.
