Samuel Millet Obituary

World War II Army veteran Samuel Emil Millet, 91, of Great Falls, a retired bartender/bar owner, died of natural causes Friday, March 4, at a local care facility.
At his request, no services are planned and cremation has taken place under the direction of Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home. Private graveside services will be held in the veterans section of Highland Cemetery at a later date.
Sam was born Jan 11, 1920, to Italian immigrants, Theodore and Camille Millet in Sand Coulee, Mont., where he was raised and educated. He proudly served in the Army in North Africa during WWII.
He later became owner of the Sand Coulee Bar.
In 1961, he married Emma Ruff Adamson and had a son. Though they later divorced, they remained close.
He enjoyed playing poker, was an avid follower of Major League Baseball and hunting with his son. Nearest to his heart were kids and dogs. Though unable to hunt in recent years, Sam was extremely pleased that Montanans took back their hunting heritage in this past November's election with the passage of Initiative 161.
Survivors include a son, Dean Millet of Great Falls; a stepdaughter, Sandy (Ken) Heinert of Vaughn; a granddaughter, Shanley (Roger) Paul of Great Falls; his ex-wife, Emma Millet of Great Falls; a stepgranddaughter, Melissa (Paul) Soldano of Great Falls; and two great-grandchildren.
The family gives the deepest thanks to extended family and friends and the very special people in the medical field.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents; brothers George Millet and John Millet; a sister, Nellie Lindsay; and all of Sand Coulee.
Rest in peace, Dad, Brother, Son, Grampa, Uncle and Friend.

Condolences and prayers to the Millet family on the passing of Samuel E. Millet. I knew him well for many years. I played poker with him in the 70's and 80's. We knew him as (Sammy). He was a very good poker player; probably the best in Great Falls. I will remember him mostly however as a very kind, happy, and inspiring individual who made people happy by his presence alone. He had a great sense of humor; he was always fun to be with and was definitely an individual of integrity, inspiration, and honor. I will never forget him; he will be in my prayers forever. Sincrely, Robert M. Hudick, Gt. Falls, Montana (military veteran)
