Shirley Newcomb Obituary
Great Falls, MT —Shirley M. Newcomb, age 86, passed away on April 3, 2017, in Great Falls. Shirley was born on September 17, 1930 to Sanford and Lucy Hicks of Ulm. She graduated from Cascade High School and married Thomas P. Newcomb, Jr. on December 4, 1948. They raised six children and lived in Great Falls and Missoula before moving to Port Angeles, WA, in 1978 where they owned and operated KAPY Radio for almost 20 years.
Shirley is survived by daughters Candice (Steve) Short, Great Falls; Tammy (Jim) Hanan, Albuquerque, NM; Peggy (Spencer) Bracey, Spokane, WA; son Michael Newcomb, Port Angeles, WA; daughter-in-law Lorraine "Pat" Newcomb, Sequim, WA: son-in-law Wayne Dunning, Great Falls; brother Robert (Margery) Hicks, Belgrade, MT (formerly Ulm). Shirley is also survived by 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas P. Newcomb, Jr., son Thomas P. Newcomb III, and daughter Sue Dunning as well as her parents and six siblings.
Shirley enjoyed gardening and painting. Many years ago she won a ribbon at the Montana State Fair for a watercolor of Bowman Lake where she and Tom enjoyed camping and fishing. Her son Michael best described Shirley as a person "who expected nothing and appreciated everything".
No funeral will be held and a family memorial event will be held later in the year. The Newcomb family expresses appreciation to the Kindred Transitional Care staff and residents for their wonderful loving care of our Mother.

So many great childhood memories of the Newcombs in Great Falls and later in Missoula. Shirley and Tom were such wonderful people. Rest Peacefully, Shirley. I'm sure Tom, Tommy and Sue are taking great care of you now. Prayers to the entire Newcomb Family.
