Mary MacWherter Obituary

Mary Putnam Hudson MacWherter of Greeley passed away peacefully on January 4, 2022, in her daughter's home and surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 15, 1927, to John White and Mary Ames Hudson in Kansas City, MO. Mary grew up in Kansas City where she loved spending the summers at the Hudson family farm outside of Independence, MO. She graduated from Sunset Day School for Women in 1946 and went on to attend the University of Missouri in Columbia. Mary was an active member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. At the University of Missouri, she met her lifelong love, Richard "Dick" MacWherter. Dick was studying business at the university having just returned from the Pacific, where he served in the US Navy during WWII. In 1950, Mary graduated with a BA in Education. Mary and Dick were married September 23, 1950, at Community Christian Church in Kansas City. Mary taught kindergarten in Kansas City, then in Mt. Vernon, IL, where they moved in 1952. It was in Mt. Vernon that Mary and Dick had their first two daughters, Catherine (Katie) and Elizabeth (Betsy). The family of four then moved to Boulder, CO in 1956 where they had their third daughter, Joan (Jenny). The family made a final move to Greeley, CO in 1961, where their fourth daughter, Martha, was born. Mary and Dick have lived in the home they built in Greeley ever since. Mary was a woman of sincere faith who loved the Lord Jesus with all her heart. She blessed her family and many others with her prayers, notes, love, and care. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother building a beautiful family that now stretches to four generations in Colorado. Mary supported her husband and his independent insurance career, which led them to travel and enjoy seeing the country, and to build life-long friendships. She loved spending summers at the family cabin outside Estes Park, filling the days with activities at the pool, playing horseshoes, hiking, drying flowers, collecting rocks and more. Mary was a talented artist, beautifully gifted in porcelain china painting, tole painting, and calligraphy. Her family and friends have many beautiful treasures that Mary created. She was involved in her local community, serving in numerous roles at church and other organizations she and Dick supported. Mary was a long-time member at Resurrection Fellowship Church in Loveland. She recently became a member of Cornerstone Community Church in Greeley. Most of all, Mary enjoyed spending time with her family. Mary is survived by her husband Dick, daughters; Katie, Betsy (Jeff), Jenny (Nathan), Martha (Jim), grandchildren; Catherine (Chris), Jenny (Philip), Mary, David (Sarah), Liz (Josh), Jayne (Chris), Kyle (Kristina), Ella, Rebekah, Michael, Anna (Noah), and her great-grandchildren; Edmund, Margaret, Madeline, Blakely, Hudson, William, Judah, Eli, Titus, Joy, Peter, Finn, Daphne, Harvey, Layla, Jadon, Liat, Audrey, and Eviana. Mary is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Catherine Stein. A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Monday, January 31st at Adamson Life Celebration Home in Greeley. A Life Celebration service will take place at a later date in March. Please check for any updates on Adamsoncares.com. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to The Resource Center (Greeley) or Resurrection Christian School (Loveland) in care of Adamson Life Celebration Home; 2000 W 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634.

Mom was an amazing woman and loved her family and people well! She is deeply missed and yet her legacy lives on in Dad and the 3 generations that she loved and prayed for. She would love to have you give to The Resource Center in Greeley or Resurrection School in Loveland, as babies and children were especially precious to her.
