Alfred Motiff Obituary

Motiff, Alfred V.

Alfred V. Motiff, 92, Green Bay, died Thursday, March 13, 2014. He was born February 19, 1922, in Green Bay to Frederick and Stephanie Motiff. Al graduated from Green Bay West High School in 1940. He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served in the Pacific Theater. After the war, Al attended St. Norbert College and graduated with a B.A. degree in Economics.

Al was employed by James River Corporation for 36 years, mostly in the Production Planning Department. He was a member of Resurrection Parish and the Green Bay Men's Club. Al served as a volunteer for the Salvation Army and as a reading buddy at Howe Elementary School. He played baseball in his younger days and was an avid golfer. Al was especially proud of his "hole in one" on Number 13 at Hilly Haven. He also enjoyed football from his grade school days of playing quarterback for the Annunciation Bulldogs to having Packer season tickets.

Al married the love of his life, Uardey Anderle, on June 16, 1951. His love for her was shown in many ways but was especially evident as he cared for her as she battled Alzheimer's.

We (his three daughters) are so appreciative of our dad's love, support and all he taught us. He truly valued his faith, family education, and hard work. His sense of humor with his jokes and one-liners was a constant in our lives. Throughout his life, dad had wonderful friends and enjoyed his time with them. One of his greatest joys was the time he spent with his five grandchildren. He loved them all and was so proud of them.

He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law: Mary (Paul) Chrisman, Pulaski; Nancy (Michael) Fictum, Green Bay; and Julie (David) Wirth, Cross Plains, WI; as well as grandchildren: Christopher and Justin Fictum; and Sarah, Tess and Sam Wirth.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Uardey; his parents; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Mathilda (Ezra) Fonder and Marie (Joseph) Herlache; four brothers and sisters-in-law: Albert (Mary); Victor (Rose); Frank (Mary); and Herman (Vivian); and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation with family and friends will be held at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop Dr., Allouez from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 20. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Visitation will continue from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with Bishop Robert Morneau officiating. Blaney Funeral Home is assisting the family. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Al's name.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Resurrection Parish for their kindness and Heartland Hospice for their incredible support and compassion over these last few months. We are also grateful to Dr. Paul Schmitz for his many years of care as well as the staffs of Woodside Assisted Living, Angel's Touch and especially to Jane, Tammy and the staff of Allouez Parkside Village. Finally we would like to thank Jan Motiff, Jerry Hermsen and the Kenney Street neighbors for all the ways they helped dad.

Dear Nancy and family...It was with sincere sadness that I read the email this morning from you announcing the bittersweet news of your fathers death. He was such a kind man and it was always a treat to be in his presence. I can certainly tell where you got your sense of humor from. I am happy to know that your folks are now reunited in Heaven and will be together eternally. If I can do anything for you, please let me know.

Your dad's kindness and humor always stayed with me when I remember the grade school and high school days of hanging out at the Reed Street house. So nice my mom had his familiar face at both Woodside and Parkside!
